Acts 20:28-38
It is more blessed to give than to receive.
Jesus said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ St Luke records these words and they appear only in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 20:35). They reveal in a very real way what the life in the Spirit is all about. Where the Spirit is there is not only freedom but generosity, kindness, true human dignity and service of others. The work of the Spirit makes us generous and willing to give, serve and not count the cost. Being generous is not just about giving financially but involves equally valuable things such as our time, our energy, our commitment and our dedication. St John Vianney said, ‘I do not lend. I give. Hasn’t the good God been the first to give to me?’
Lord, we have received from your bounty so many graces and blessings. May your name be forever praised.
