Sunday 27 May
Pentecost Sunday
Pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit across the face of the earth and ...fill now once more the hearts of believers. (Collect)
Acts 1:1-11
In a few days you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.
What word best describes the Holy Spirit. St Thomas Aquinas said the best word to describe the Spirit was Love. In sending the Holy Spirit God has poured his love into our hearts. Our Olympic theme and our reflection on the witness of Queen Elizabeth, have served to remind us that the Christian life is a race we are called to run and a fight we are called to fight. We do so with the help and strength of the Spirit of God. Our hope during this Eastertide Walk with Me is that we have learnt to call upon the Spirit with a new boldness and confidence.
Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy. Amen
(St Augustine).
