Baptism of the Lord
I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God. (Communion Antiphon)
Isaiah 55:4
See, I have made you a witness to the nations.
We are created in the image and likeness of God. This is the dignity that every human person possesses. In baptism however we receive a new dignity. Through the gift of baptism we are immersed into Jesus’ death and resurrection. Baptism is the gateway into the Christian life. Through it we are made children of God, born again by the Spirit and partakers in the divine nature. In baptism we are made a new creation and witnesses to a new humanity. We express this new humanity, this new life, in love and service of others. By treating people with dignity, respect and reverence we become a living sign of our baptism, a living sacrament of God’s love in the world.
Lord Jesus, by your death and resurrection we are born again by water and the Spirit and enter the kingdom of God. Keep your Spirit alive in us.
