Acts 18:9-18
Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent.
St Paul was compelled to preach the gospel. He did so at times in the face of violent opposition. He was driven by love for God and love for his neighbour. He lived in the hope of seeing God and he wanted others to share in this. He had, if you like, a heavenly vision. An understanding of the destiny of the human person which was rooted in the hope of seeing God. As St Gregory of Nyssa said: ‘The promise of seeing God surpasses all beatitude. In scripture, to see is to possess. Whoever sees God has obtained all the goods of which he can conceive.’ Our eternal destiny is to partake in the divine nature and to live forever in perfect communion with God.
Lord, you taught that where our treasure is, there our hearts will be also. You are my treasure; you are all I seek.
