The Year of Faith will be a good opportunity to intensify the witness of charity (Pope Benedict).
Luke 4:14-22
To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.
The coming of Christ was indeed the ‘year of the Lord’s favour.’ This current Year of Faith is our year of favour. It will be a year of many blessings and graces but also of renewal and refreshment. During it we can strengthen our work of charity. As St Paul wrote ‘So faith, hope, love abide, these three: but the greatest of these is love’ (1 Corinthians 13:13). And St James was very clear: ‘You have faith and I have works. Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith’ (James 2:14-18). There is an epiphany of Christ in every poor person. Let us strive to respond to him with generous and open hearts.
Lord, it is faith that enables me to recognize you in my neighbour as I journey through life. Help me to serve and not count the cost and love until it hurts.
