Grace Inside - International Prison Outreach
Pope Benedict met with prisoners recently and this is what he said: ‘You are always close and I pray that the Lord help you on this difficult path: I will carry you in my heart and, from my heart, I hope that you can find the way to make a contribution to society, according to your capacities and the gifts that God has given you.’
The Port Chaplain - On Board for a Christian Welcome
Sunday July 11 is Sea Sunday on which we are encouraged to pray for Seafarers and the Port Chaplains who care for them. Faith Today spent a day with Ann Donnelly, the Port Chaplain at Teignmouth and Liuba Jeffs, a ship’s visitor to talk about their work and ministry.
Meeting God in Friend and Stranger
Faith Today met up with Archbishop Kevin McDonald to discuss the vision which lies at the heart of this important new document.
A warm welcome in your parish?
As welcomes go, you’re surely assured of a warm one in your local Catholic parish.
Unfortunately, though, that’s not necessarily the case – as the Bishops of England and Wales discovered a few years ago when they carried out a survey of the needs of ordinary Catholics throughout the country.
Prisons Weeks - Holding Fast to Hope
The theme for Prisons Week (November 15-21) this year is ‘Holding Fast to Hope’. As the author of the Letter to the Hebrews says: ‘Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another’ (10:23-25).
Resurrection Joy
On the Day of Pentecost St Peter was a transformed man. He was once a coward; he was once weak, fearful and inarticulate; he was once easily confused, stubborn and dull to the truths of God. On the Day of Pentecost this changed forever.
The Power of the Resurrection
St Paul considered everything as utterly meaningless and worthless compared with possessing Christ. This brilliant and supremely able man, many years after his conversion, said that more than anything else he wanted to know Christ and the power of his resurrection (Phil. 3:10). He wanted the transforming power of Jesus’ resurrection life to be ever increasing within him so that God’s grace and power would permeate his life and radiate out through him, and he would attain the very likeness of Christ himself.

Prison Facts
Prisons Week (November 16 – November 22) has as its theme : Talented or Worthless? There is a view, prevalent in society at large, which holds to the view that a prisoner should be treated with contempt, locked away (and preferably with the key thrown away) and very much ‘out of sight, out of mind.’
This however is not the Christian view which always holds out the prospect of conversion, change and redemption. The truth is that there but for God’s grace we all go and we at Bible Alive uphold that every prisoner, just like every human being, is created in the image and likeness of God and has God given talents and abilities.
