Saturday 26 May
The Holy Spirit will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine and declare it to you, says the Lord, alleluia. (Communion Antiphon)
Acts 28:16-20, 30-31
Boldly and without hindrance he preached the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.
Tomorrow we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost. The Acts of the Apostles is an amazing and exciting account of the adventures of the early church. It could equally be called the ‘Acts of the Holy Spirit’. The Holy Spirit was the source of their power, the one who animated, strengthened, guided and renewed them in their faith. The Spirit is the One who reminded them of Jesus’ words, gave them the eloquence to proclaim him and the courage to stand up to their trials and persecutions. This is the same Spirit we will receive anew tomorrow in the liturgy of Pentecost.
The Holy Spirit longs to find the gates of our heart, so that he may enter and dwell there, and sanctify it; and he goes round about to all the gates to see where he may enter. (Ephraem the Syrian)
