Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the throne 60 years ago, and this month the celebrations for her milestone are taking place across Britain. But what about the other Diamond Jubilarians – the nuns, priests and married couples who celebrate six decades since they took their vows? Faith Today meets some of them.
Celebrating The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
On 5 June Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her Diamond Jubilee. Throughout the last sixty years the Queen has given a powerful witness of both the spiritual power and the calling of monarchy. She is a living sign, if you like, of the qualities of selfless and sacrificial devotion to duty and service. As Queen she is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England.
50th International Eucharistic Congress
Between June 10-17 the 50th International Eucharist Congress takes place in Dublin. The theme of the Eucharistic Congress is The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with One Another.
The Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith and we are blessed indeed to receive it as it is a foretaste of the heavenly life to come.
