‘Take and Read’ is a major new publication which provides assistance for both groups and individuals in understanding and praying the Bible. The series has been developed as a follow-up to the document ‘The Gift of Scripture’, which was produced in 2005 by the Bishops of England and Wales, and of Scotland.

Twelve passages take you on a journey through the Gospel of Luke, and help you to appreciate it more fully and pray it more deeply. Each session of ‘Take and Read’ begins with Hear the word of God, and provides the chosen text from the New Revised Standard Version. Understand the word of God gives an explanation of the text, with quotations from the Fathers and from Church documents in the margins. All this is richly illustrated with Christian art and inspiring photographs. Finally, Live the word of God offers suggestions for reflection and prayer, so that the Scriptures may have a genuine impact on our daily lives.

The Gospel of Luke invites us to embark on a journey of faith and discovery. This journey began when Jesus travelled from Galilee to Jerusalem, and continued in the Acts of the Apostles with the journeys of Philip, Peter, Barnabas and Paul. Our own journey of faith is part of this bigger journey, and Luke introduces us to fellow-travellers along the way.
