Charity raffle
Sell raffle tickets, you can theme your raffle – such as giving away a giant chocolate Easter egg, or Christmas-themed prizes – or just reward the winner with a gift/book token, magazine subscription or tickets to a show.
Coffee Mornings
A coffee morning is a great idea to raise money for IPO while doing something everyone loves: Eating, drinking and having a chat! It’s best for a large group of people, either held at work, school or possibly in your local parish. Sell tea, coffee and small baked items and watch your IPO fund grow. If you don’t have a large venue, don’t get discouraged. You can also run a smaller-scale coffee morning in your own home. Invite your family, friends and neighbours around and tell them all about IPO.
Dance
Are you a disco diva? A dancing queen? Or the bell of the ballroom? Why not put your skill and enthusiasm to good use and arrange a dance or ball. Make a competition out of it: Charge a small entry fee for dance participants and ask local businesses to donate prizes. Or, apply a cover charge to anyone attending and also have a raffle.
Bike Ride
A charity bike ride is an excellent way to raise money, involve people of all age groups and fitness levels. Set a course — the most adventurous of you may want to ride from Land End to John O’Groats; however, we would recommend a shorter course for occasional riders. Make sure you inform your local council if you’ll be using public space. Get sponsorship for completing the course entirely, or take pledges per mile. Choose a nice day and cycle your way to a healthy charitable donation!
Cake/Pie Raffle
There are few things tastier than a fundraising cake raffle. Here’s how it works: Get all of your friends, family and neighbours to bake a cake or pie and arrange a time to get together with your creations. Each person either pays a flat fee and gets to pick a random baked good; let people pick out of a hat to keep it fair. If you have a big group, you can also auction off a few cakes, or award prizes for the best one. Either way, your fundraising cause makes money with very little outlay.
The Holy Read
Why not organise a 24-hour read-a-thon of the Bible in your Church? Ask participants to read for 20 minutes at a time to make up the 24 hours, then parishioners and friends can sponsor them for doing so. This is a great idea that can be done with any religious book - you could even set up a coffee and cake stall for visitors who come in and listen!
Street Choir
Whether you play instruments or sing a capella, more voices are better than one! Get a few of your friends together and form a street choir to raise funds for International Prison Outreach. The best places to sing are in busy city centres or shopping precincts, preferably on the weekend or over a bank holiday. You may also want to have a friend to collect donations and hand out flyers about your fundraising efforts. You’ll need to apply for a licence from your local council, but this isn’t hard to get; just allow plenty of time for the council to process your paperwork before the performance date.
Car Boot Sale
Persuade your neighbours and fellow parishioners to clean out their lofts and garages by holding a community car boot sale. You can hold the boot sale on your street – more like a yard sale or garage sale, depending on what your neighbourhood is like – or ask to use your parish carpark or a local sports field for the day.
Fundraising at work/school
Fundraising at work is often tremendously successful – you have a captive audience who will welcome any change to a monotonous work day. To make the most of your fundraising at work, try out these ideas. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best ones. There are many fundraising ideas that take only a few hours (or less) to prepare.
Donation bucket
Walk around your office/classrooms/parish and tell your work/school colleagues about your fundraising cause. Many will give on the spot donations.
Dress down day
Hold a special themed day for International Prison Outreach. Workers/ pupils pay a small amount (usually £1) so they can wear casual clothes or a costume to work.
Cheese and Wine Party
A cheese and wine party is always popular and a great way of raising money for IPO whilst meeting friends and having fun.
Fun Work Fundraising Ideas
Simple isn’t always better – these fun fundraising ideas will help break up a boring workday:
Dunk the boss/ teacher
Rent a dunk tank from a party company and charge a fee for each throw. Put your most-beloved manager/teacher on the hot seat and watch the money come flying in.
Sponsored activity
Choose a sponsored activity that will have your colleagues laughing. Popular ideas include sponsored head shave and baked bean boots.
Costume contest
Have everyone in your office/school pay £1 to dress up in a crazy outfit. Award prizes to the best-dressed. You can even have a runway fashion show at lunch hour.
Recycle your mobile phone
Saving the environment and helping to spread the word at the same time. Send old mobile phones to an online phone recycler such as envirofone.com and donate the proceeds to us. We can send you posters and other promotional material to put around your parish/school for people to bring in their old phones.
Fundraising boxes in Parishes
Give participating parishes a fundraising box and promotional material which we can supply, to simply put in their church. A volunteer will then send IPO/IFO a cheque for the money raised every month.
Facebook/Twitter
Invite people to come up with fundraising ideas and keep people updated with what others are doing.
