What thoughts come to mind when you think of the first of January? New Year’s Day, parties, overindulgence, a bank holiday, New Year’s resolutions. However, for the Church this day, the first of the year is the solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God.
We wish each other a ‘happy new year’ and make new year resolutions, many of which are to do with happiness, joy or fulfilment. A new diet, a fitness regime, a new adventure, a change in direction and so on. Happiness, is in many ways, the human endeavour.
